Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a fun and creative environment for children and families in the community to learn about God and the stories of the Bible.  The atmosphere is meant to be welcoming, educational and great place for children to develop their social skills and leadership qualities.

All ages of children in the community are invited to participate.  VBS is friendly and informal, usually held during summer vacation for a week or several days. Today, VBS curriculum’s are very exciting and engaging generally using technology and theater; including themes from the Jungle, Ocean, Farm, Mount Everest, Blast to the Past Time Travel, and more!  VBS usually includes songs, crafts, skits, snack, games, and mission service projects based around the concept that we are the hands and feet of Jesus; and to get kids familiar with the lessons of the Bible!  Many churches are adding into the daily schedule a specially designed curriculum for children with special needs as well as having an allergy sensitive healthy snack for all.

You can find out when your local churches are holding their VBS by visiting the individual churches websites and through social media.  VBS is a fantastic opportunity to meet a new church family and for your children to meet new friends in their community.  Meeting new friends and learning about the Bible will help your children develop social skills, the understanding that they are loved and never alone. Your children will meet people in their community and can learn the importance and value of being part of a church community. Many people develop new relationships with friends at church during their childhoods that remain throughout their lives, whether they remain a member of the church or not.

Church of the Good Shepherd, United Methodist in downtown Oswego goodshepherdoswego.org hosts its VBS the first full week in August.  Monday-Friday, 9am-noon.  2015 Blast to the Past time travel was presented where we learned through song that L-O-V-E God is Love and we blasted back to Bible Times!  Please visit our website to see pictures in our newsletter and VBS page.  2016 we will host VBS Aug. 1-5, hope to see you then.
